WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Capitol Counsel, announced that Michelle Mathy will join the firm as principal, further expanding their expertise in the health, science and bio policy.
Michelle most recently served as Head of Federal Affairs at Otsuka America Pharmaceuticals Inc., where she was responsible for developing and executing Otsuka’s strategy to advance policies that improve patient access to mental health care, increase patient access to treatments, and advance digital health technology.
Mathy is joining the firm with more than a decade of experience in the health care industry, as well as in government relations where she ran a $4 million PAC for the American Society of Anesthesiologists. Michelle attended Southern Illinois University Carbondale, where she received a B.A. in Political Science and a B.S. in Communications. She began her career in health policy at the American Hospital Association. Michelle held the position of Associate Director of Congressional and Political Affairs at the American Academy of Dermatology Association. At the AADA, Michelle was responsible for successfully influencing legislative and regulatory proposals affecting dermatology, including Medicare parts B, C, and D. Prior to joining Otsuka in 2021, Michelle was the Director of Government Affairs and Policy at Biogen, Inc., where she was a member of the Biosimilars Business Unit Leadership Team and led Biogen’s gene therapy policy work.
