WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Capitol Counsel announced the addition of former Senator Murkowski’s chief of staff, Michael Pawlowski, as Partner. His impressive track record working with elected officials at both state and federal levels will bring a wealth of experience and expertise to the firm and our clients. Throughout his career, Pawlowski has demonstrated his deep understanding of a wide range of policy areas, from renewable energy to traditional resource development, fiscal policy, and healthcare. His extensive knowledge and strategic approach make him a valuable asset to Capitol Counsel and its diverse clientele.
Capitol Counsel’s Partner, Shannon Finley, said, “‘Fish’ brings decades of political, policy, and process expertise at both the state and federal levels. He will be a tremendous asset to our already strong senate, health care, appropriations, and energy teams. In this closely divided congress, his relationships will help guide our clients to successful outcomes in an increasingly complicated regulatory and legislative landscape.”
During his tenure as Sen. Murkowski’s Chief of Staff and primary advisor and strategist, Michael played a crucial role in various efforts to reform the Affordable Care Act, Comprehensive Tax Reform, the opening of the 1002 area of ANWR, and he worked to develop policies to support the development of the Keystone Pipeline, three Supreme Court Nominations, and the federal response to the global pandemic.
“I am thrilled to join the exceptional team at Capitol Counsel. I have known and worked with their bipartisan and bicameral team for years and am excited to help our clients navigate a divided congress,” Pawlowski said. “These next few years will be the most crucial to our energy sector in a generation. Our team is ready to leverage this moment for our clients.”
In 2012, Pawlowski joined Gov. Parnell’s administration, where he spearheaded the development of a groundbreaking approach to reform the oil and gas production tax. As Deputy Commissioner of Revenue, his most notable accomplishments were his instrumental role in establishing the Alaska LNG Project as one of the project’s architects and lead negotiators. Pawlowski’s dedication to the state’s economic growth extended beyond his role in the Alaska LNG Project, as he also served on the Board of the Alaska Industrial Development and Export Authority and contributed as staff with the Alaska Natural Gas Development Authority. Pawlowski will also remain a partner in Strategy North Group, where he will continue to provide lobbying and strategic consulting services to clients in Alaska
