Capitol Counsel Welcomes David M. Olander

Capitol Counsel is pleased to announce that David M. Olander (Dave) will be joining the firm’s tax practice and legislative team, as a Partner.

Olander was named in Tax Notes as one of the top congressional tax staffers in 2014 as the Majority Chief Tax Counsel on the House Ways and Means Committee. Olander oversaw the formation of all tax legislation considered by the Committee and the House during the 112th and 113th Congresses. Notably, Olander led the development of the Tax Reform Act of 2014, widely considered the most significant development in this area since 1986.

“Having watched from the Hill the remarkable success of Capitol Counsel since its founding, I know first-hand how much Members and staff respect the firm and appreciate the way it engages constructively with policymakers on behalf of its clients,” said Olander. “Today’s tax policy landscape presents unique challenges and opportunities for stakeholders, and I am looking forward to helping Capitol Counsel’s impressive roster of clients meet those challenges and seize those opportunities.”

Capitol Counsel’s team of experts focuses on the policy, politics, and process of Washington. Olander brings nearly two decades of experience to the firm’s already strong policy teams and will serve a leading role in the firm’s tax practice.

“As ranking member of the Ways and Means Committee, I hired Dave Olander to join the minority tax staff. He proved to be an outstanding asset to me and my successor, Dave Camp, who promoted Dave to Chief Tax Counsel. Serving in that capacity until Chairman Camp’s retirement, Dave was known by his fellow staffers and Members on the committee to be diligent in his duties and thorough in his work,” said former Congressman and Capitol Counsel Partner, Jim McCrery. “We at Capitol Counsel are very pleased Dave will be bringing to our firm those exceptional qualities and ‎his valuable experience.”

Olander is a graduate of Brown University and the University of Virginia School of Law. In addition to his work on Capitol Hill, he is an in-demand speaker, frequently providing timely insight on tax matters to trade groups, think tanks, and other organizations.

Capitol Counsel is a full-service, bipartisan, and bicameral lobbying firm recognized for its expertise in tax, healthcare, financial services, energy, commerce, and trade.
